CHAPTER ELEVEN
“We got another offer on the condo,” Brandon said as I slipped into his car after work. We had been home from Seattle for over two weeks. He and Jason hired a few security guards to look after the premises and watch out for lurkers. To my knowledge, Trevor had not returned to the gym, and I hoped he was scared off by having security there now.
“Oh good, is it what you want?” I asked, buckling my seatbelt after giving him a quick kiss.
“It’s actually over listing price.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah,” he said, smiling.
“Are you going to accept it?”
“I already did,” he said, grabbing my hand and kissing it. “Now we need to start looking for our place.”
“Can we get a place where we can have a dog?” I asked, smiling back at him.
“We can get whatever you want, Babe.”
I had never house hunted before. Ryan and I spent many Saturdays watching shows on HGTV like Househunters and Property Virgins and always talked about what our dream houses would look like. I knew what I liked and didn’t like, but I never thought I would be buying a house in San Francisco because of the high cost of living.
“We should start this weekend. The agent who I have selling the condo has some houses for us to look at.”
“Houses, not condos?”
“Yeah? You want a condo?”
“No––I just figured we would get a condo because that is what you had before.”
“I had a condo because I was single, but now that I have you, I want a house so we can make it our own.”
I turned my head towards him more and started to stare at him. Was this really happening? So much had changed in the last five months. Ryan and Max were getting married. I no longer lived with Ryan and barely saw her. I was living with a guy and now talking about buying houses, and buying a house together was a big step. Maybe he just meant that I would help pick it out, but my name wouldn’t be on the deed.
“Okay,” I said nervously.
“Okay? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, just…it’s just it’s only been five months and now you want to buy a house together. I mean, what if you wake up one morning and you regret it?”
“What? Why would I regret it?”
“I don’t know. It just seems that it is happening a little too fast.” I felt a lump in the back of my throat as I fought against the tears I felt stinging my eyes.
“Listen to me, Babe,” Brandon said, parking in his reserved parking spot at the gym. “You’re like the cheese to my mac or the cream to my coffee. I can’t be without you and I will not regret buying a house with you. I love you so much, and nothing is ever going to change that. Please, don’t ever doubt the way I feel about you or any of my intentions. I have never felt this way about any other girl or girlfriend for that matter.
